The new Dali Museum

The new Dali Museum is one of a kind. Dali's art, at once classically-based and provocatively imaginative, resonates in the geometry of the concrete and the astonishing flow of glass from the fractured center of the building.

The Dali Museum is iconic and a beacon of the arts scene in downtown St. Petersburg. Come sip coffee in our wi-fied Café Gala, stroll to the center of our garden labyrinth and take a deep breath. Entertain the possibility of the fantastical as the place and the art invite you to look beyond.
Today, together with Dali's own museum in Spain, the Theatre-Museu Gala-Salvador Dali our two institutions constitute the most comprehensive collections of the artists work and research archives in the world. The Dali Museum St. Petersburg is a global community treasure in Florida.

The Tampa Bay Area and St Petersburg, two stunning, picturesque city by the bay.  Florida's very own city by the bay, Tampa has its own vibrant culture, with roots firmly planted in Cuban and American history.  Seminole Hard Rock Casino, Busch Gardens, Island of Adventure, Florida Aquarium, Henery B. Plant Museum, housed in an ornate, Moorish-style hotel built more than a century ago to lure tourists to the city by railroad.   Ybor City, the historic Cuban enclave, now a bustling, often rowdy nightlife.  Two bridges and a causeway whisk you west across Old Tampa Bay to Pinellas peninsula.  On the western shore of the bay stands St Petersburg.  It was built a century ago primarily for tourists and wintering snowbirds.  Here you'll find one of the most picturesque and pleasant downtowns of any city in Florida, with a waterfront promenade and the famous inverted pyramid-shaped pier.  Downtown has many great museums, including the world's largest collection of Salvador Dali's surrealist paintings, housed in a new waterfront location.

Keep driving west and you'll come to a line of barrier islands, where St. Pete Beach, Clearwater Beach, and other Gulf side communities boast 28 miles of sunshine, surf, and white sand.   The Don Cesar Hotel better known as the "Pink Castle" is a century old that was used as a hospital during the war.  Clearwater Aquarium is home to "Winter" the star of a Dolphin Tale, a true movie that is sure to warm your heart!

If it is sports you like, the Tampa Bay Area is the place for you!  We have Rays baseball, Buccaneers football, Lightings hockey, and home to spring training for major league baseball.  Also, the Grand Prix has been whizzing downtown St Petersburg for the last few years.  The last 2 years, Red Bull has held it's flugtag downtown Tampa. We have boat races, fishing torments, etc.

Heading south, I-275 will take you across the Sun Shine Skyway Bridge, and the mouth of Tampa Bay to Sarasota and another chain of barrier islands that stretches 42 miles along the coast. One of Florida’s cultural centers, affluent Sarasota is the gateway to St Armands and Longboat keys, two playgrounds for the rich and famous.

Starting just south of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, you will find Anna Maria Island, Holmes Beach, Bradenton Beach, Longbeach, Longboat Key, St Armands Key, Lido Beach, Siesta Key, Casey Key, Nokomis, and Venice Beach.  You will find a great campground on the southend of Siesta Key called Turtle Beach Campground.

Ringling Museum is where teh showman and circus legend John Ringling and his wife collected art and built a hourse on a grand scale.

Boyd Hill Nature Parklong with beautiful beaches, St. Petersburg attracts vis

The largest park within the Pinellas County Park System, Fort De itors with the Salvador Dali Museum, Fort De Soto Park and the St. Petersburg Pier. The city, located close to Clearwater, is known for its warm weather and breezes that blow off Tampa Bay.

One of the true gems of the city of St. Petersburg, you'll find this park on Country Club Way S off Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street. The 2.1-mile trail traverses a variety of habitat, including floodplain forest, freshwater marsh and pine flatwoods. Boyd Hill has an educational nature center, so leave yourself a half-hour for a self-guided tour.

Fort De Soto Park

Voted "Best Beach" in the nation in 2005 by Stephen Leatherman, a.k.a. Dr. Beach, this Pinellas County park has lots of blue water and sugar sand, but don't miss the four hiking trails. Arrowhead Nature Trail, at the north end of the park, is a must. Pick up a free map at the ranger station to guide you through the natural communities.

Hillsborough River State Park

A half-hour north of Tampa, this is one of the finest hiking trails in the state. Look for red-shouldered hawks in the sky above and otters in the river below as you hike along the banks of the Hillsborough. Be sure to take the "rapids" trail, a rare treat in a state that is as flat as a pancake.

Honeymoon Island State Park

Located at the extreme west end of State Road 586 in Dunedin, this 2.5-mile nature trail offers the best chance to see osprey nesting in Florida. The raptors love the 80-acre slash pine forest, a reminder of what Pine-Ellas County must have looked like at the turn of the century.

J.B. Starkey Wilderness Park

This Pasco County Park has great mountain biking, horseback riding and camping in addition to 13 miles of hiking trails that traverse a variety of habitat. If time is an issue, walk the 1.6-mile nature trail, one of the best in our area.

The Florida Trail

If you want to see many of Florida's unspoiled wilderness areas, you'll have to walk. Luckily, the Florida Trail Association oversees more than 1,500 miles of well-maintained trails that stretch from the Everglades to the Panhandle. Most of the trails can be found on public property — state parks and forests — but some sections also run through private land. For more information, go to floridatrail.org.
